7 Stages of Growth

The primary goal of every practice leader is to create, sustain and grow a healthy, profitable practice. Growing a consistently healthy practice requires a leader to understand and implement the rules needed in their specific stage of practice growth. Success depends on those leaders who chose to organize their practice by the stages of growth as all consistently successful companies do.

Stages of growth is an “enterprise growth model” which is based on a nine-year national research project with over 700 CEO’s. The study recognized companies grow in complexity and that the complexity level is created by people, not the profits or revenue. The model identifies seven stages of growth based on the number of people and introduces a concept called “The Growth Curve”. The Growth Curve is an imaginary line charting the balance between chaos and equilibrium in companies – or practices – with fewer than 500 employees. The author, James Fischer has authored a book called: Navigating the Growth Curve – 9 Fundamentals that Build a Profit-Driven, People-Centered, Growth-Smart Company.
